The Risk of the Hidden Habit of Stress

In today's fast-paced world, stress has quietly woven itself into the fabric of our daily lives. For many, living with stress isn’t a temporary state—it has become a habit. When we're constantly under pressure, our bodies and minds adapt to the tension, making stress feel normal, even necessary. Over time, this chronic state becomes our baseline, and we forget what it feels like to truly relax.
This normalization is dangerous. Just because stress becomes familiar doesn’t mean it’s harmless. In fact, long-term stress steadily erodes our mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical health. It can lead to anxiety, burnout, poor sleep, and even chronic illnesses like heart disease. Yet, we often wear stress like a badge of honor, equating busyness with productivity and value.
Breaking this cycle requires awareness. We must learn to recognize stress not as a sign of strength, but as a warning light. Mindfulness, boundaries, rest, and intentional moments of calm are essential tools to rewire our habits.
Living in stress may feel normal, but it’s far from natural. We deserve more than survival—we deserve peace, clarity, and wellbeing. And that begins with unlearning the habit of stress. A SHADOWMATCH STORY
Jeffrey was in grade 11 when he did Shadowmatch. He was a dedicated rugby player and loved mountain bike riding. His habits indicated a strong preference for outdoor, adventurous activities where being assertive, and having a strong sense of self-confidence is necessary. These were amongst his strong habits. But Jeffrey struggled with his academic work. It was clear from his habits why he struggled. It could have been an easy fix. Our habits must be our friends, or they will become our worst enemies.

We’re excited to share an important and positive update from the Shadowmatch team. As you may know, creating a clean and valid benchmark has traditionally required a bit of manual effort — especially when the top performers had varying habits that made it tricky to align the congruence index.
Well, good news: that process is now fully automated!
Thanks to extensive behind-the-scenes work, the system will now automatically do the “clean-up” work when you use top performers to create a benchmark — whether for recruitment, succession planning, development, or redeployment. No more manual frustration — just seamless, intelligent setup.
Please note: your existing benchmarks won’t be affected. But if you create a new one or make changes to an existing benchmark, the new automated process will kick in.
